Hello there
I am Alfie, a West Highland White terrier who owns Martin and Sue. Yes, I know that they claim that they own me – but I ask you which mugs have to go out to work every day, and who stays at home lounging around? Whoops, I mean who guards the house all day?
As you can see, I am a good dog. I always wear my life jacket when I am driving the boat or when I let Martin or Sue
drive.
Anyway, I need to talk to all dog-owners about a matter that is serious to us dogs – walkies and, how can I put this politely, weeing and pooing.
You see us dogs do need our walkies because we like walkies, it gets us out of the drudgery of, err, guarding the house or boat. But we also need to wee and poo. And quite rightly berth holders object to us weeing and pooing on the fingers, legs and walkways around the marina. Its messy, unhygienic and not nice at all. It gives us dogs a bad name, and we don’t want the Marina Management to go around putting ASBO’s on us. (By the way – why do marinas have fingers and legs, but not arms and toes? It just proves my theory that humans are not as bright as they think they are.)
So – this is a heartfelt plea to all dog-owners. Dear dog-owner – please tell the dog that owns you not to make any sort of mess around the marina, and please clear up if ever there is an accident.
The following tips may help:
- Take ‘your’ dogs for plenty of walkies – but ALWAYS on a lead
- Consistently, encourage your dog to wait until you are in a dog-walking area before relieving him/her self
- If ever there is an accident, please clear it up immediately. I suggest always having a couple of plastic bags with you. There are a couple of doggie waste bins in the marina, please do use them. If there is any residue left, please wash it away thoroughly with the nearest water tap.
- if your children take the dog for walkies, please emphasise to them the importance of following these tips.
I hope that the above is helpful, and gives assurance to non-dog owners that the majority of dog owners are responsible.
By the way, please don’t tell Martin that I have been using his computer – I have already got into trouble today for emailing that nice poodle on F-leg.
Thanks
Alfie
