Your Roving Reporter Takes on Conwy Marina

Hi Everyone and thank you for visiting the “Roving Reporter” section of your website.

Joanna - our roving reporter

In this section we will be featuring monthly short articles about owners, boats, Conwy Marina, the locality, true stories of adventure and misdaventure and anything else we can think of. The objective is to give a cross section of owners and all types of boats and your experiences with them.

First of all, let me introduce myself in my ‘official’ capacity as the Roving Reporter. My name is Joanna and I can be found, along with my husband Ian and 2 miniature daschunds, on Bluebell C5 leg.

So to start the ball rolling, it is only right that I tell you a little about us and our boat. Bluebell is a Jeanneau Merry Fisher 925 which we have owned since October last year. Previous to that we owned a Regal sports boat.

The Crew

Although new to the Jeanneau Merry Fisher, we have already taken her to our hearts. For Ian as skippper, he loves the good all round visibility, vast amounts of storage and the excellent sea keeping qualities she has. For myself there is plenty of room for socialising and a fabulous sunbathing area!

For the more technical amongst you, Bluebell has a Yanmar 260 horsepower diesel engine, bow thruster, Raymarine chartplotter and VHF radio. For the first time ever, our boat boasts a small (very small) flybridge area. However, as we are both afraid of heights you may not see us up there very often!!

Bluebell

We find the gas hob, grill and microwave oven very useful for rustling up some food on board but to be honest we do frequent the Mulberry probably more than most.

Ian says my crewing skills are definitely improving and it is some time since I jumped off onto the pontoon when berthing without a rope and jumped back on to the boat and off again, only to find by that time he has berthed it without me. I have to say berthing is the only bit I still don’t enjoy!

Due to the miserable weather we have had since October and not enough days off, we haven’t as yet, ventured very far. Fingers crossed, we are hoping for a lovely summer and some great cruising conditions. (Plenty of sunbathing too!)

Ian

Ian and I love Conwy Marina and all that it has to offer, from the stunning scenery, great sailing, good company and the wonderful peace and quiet.

Over the next few months I will be out and about in my capacity as the Roving Reporter, notepad and camera to hand. It is an opportunity for me to meet more people and everyone seems to have a tale to tell. I’m really looking forward to it. If you and your boat are interested in being featured, then please drop me an email to let me know at Joannadax@aol.co.uk

I am really looking forward to meeting you all.

Kind Regards

Joanna
