Our main Weather page uses Weather2 to provide our main forecasts. The link given is set for North Wales and Anglesey, but its website allows you to set many other detailed options. Seriously recommended!
The Met Office can give you the traditional shipping forecast or the inshore one. If you are just sailing locally, this may be of limited use – but we felt we had to include it! The site is easy enough to explore. However, as well as looking at the ‘Weather’ tab, also explore the ‘Invent’ tab. The Weather Map in ‘Invent‘ is very comprehensive, and lets you see many different layers of the weather system. It provides a variety of variables you can view, such as Rainfall, Cloud Visibility, Cloud Infra Red, Pressure, Temperature (mapped in areas), Weather, Wind, Temperature (in Celsius), Ultra Violet, Hazards in Leisure Areas (e.g. Snowdonia), Warnings and Forecasts. You can zoom into any area and get forecasts for all the above by moving the slider bar in the top right of the map.
The WindGuru site is actually based in Czechoslovakia, but is justifiably famous globally. Its name says it all. Our link gives you 3-hourly wind forecasts for Llandudno. You get wind speed, wind gusts, wind direction, cloud cover, rain and temperature. The site also has many other features. Worth an explore.
The XCWeather site is similar to WindGuru, and gives you 3 hourly forecasts of wind speed, direction, temperature, rain, weather overall (a pretty little icon!), total cloud, visibility and pressure. Our link takes you to the forecast for Conwy. Recommended.
The Magic Seaweed site is worthwhile using just for its name! In truth it is aimed mainly at surfers globally – but if you want to see the wind anywhere in the world, its worth a look. It consolidates wind from, they claim, over 6,000 stations. Our link takes you to a map of the UK and Ireland. Note that it gives you current wind, not forecasts.
All the above are free services. In contrast, Weather Commerce is, as its name suggests, a commercial service but one that does provide some limited information for free. If anyone has used its commercial services, please let us know if they are any good!
We (CMBHA) do, of course, take precisely zero responsibility for the accuracy of any of the above forecasts!
